Delicious Angel Beef Casserole

Delicious Angel Beef Casserole

This comforting casserole is everything you want in a hearty family dinner—savory ground beef layered with a rich and creamy sauce, topped with golden, crispy tater tots. It’s simple, satisfying, and destined to be a weeknight favorite.

Ingredients:

2 pounds lean ground beef

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

½ cup beef broth

¼ cup melted butter

1 packet (1 oz) Italian dressing mix

7 cups frozen tater tots

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven:
Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish (or similar casserole dish) and set it aside.
  2. Brown the beef:
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Cook it thoroughly, breaking it apart as it browns to achieve a fine, crumbly texture. Continue cooking until there is no pink remaining and the beef is nicely browned. Drain off any excess fat to prevent the casserole from becoming greasy.
  3. Mix the creamy base:
While the beef is cooking or once it’s finished, prepare the creamy mixture in a large mixing bowl. Add the softened cream cheese, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, melted butter, and the Italian dressing mix. Stir everything together until you have a smooth, well-blended mixture. The dressing mix adds a punch of flavor that balances the creaminess of the soup and cheese.
  4. Combine the beef and sauce:
Add the browned ground beef to the bowl with the creamy mixture. Stir everything together until the beef is fully coated and evenly incorporated. This creates the hearty base of your casserole.
  5. Assemble the casserole:
Pour the beef and cream mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out in an even layer. Then, take the frozen tater tots and arrange them on top of the beef layer in a single, even layer. You can place them neatly in rows or scatter them loosely, depending on your preference.
  6. Bake until golden and bubbly:
Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 35 to 45 minutes. The tater tots should be golden brown and crispy on top, and the creamy beef mixture underneath should be hot and bubbling. If you’d like a little extra crispiness, you can broil the top for an additional 2–3 minutes at the end—just keep a close eye on it.
  7. Let it rest and serve:
Once baked, remove the casserole from the oven and let it sit for about 5 minutes before serving. This rest time allows the casserole to firm up slightly, making it easier to slice and serve clean portions.

Serving Suggestions:

This casserole is a meal on its own, but it also pairs wonderfully with a crisp green salad or steamed vegetables. For added richness, you can sprinkle shredded cheese over the tots during the last 10 minutes of baking. A dollop of sour cream or a handful of chopped green onions makes a delicious garnish.
